CELTA Interview Task

The Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults Full and Part-time Courses

Intended for speakers of any language hoping to gain a recognised English Language Teaching qualification.

Aims

To provide introductory training for those with little or no previous experience of teaching English.

Entry Requirements – Applicants should normally:

  • be a minimum of 20 years old (although we may accept applicants aged between 18 and 20)
  • have a standard of education which would allow entry to Higher Education
  • have a level of written and spoken English which enables you to teach at a range of levels (level C1 on the CEFR)

Content

The course is highly practical in emphasis and will require a lot of hard work and commitment from you.

It is designed to:

  • teach you the principles of effective teaching
  • provide a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners
  • give you hands-on teaching practice

You will be kept fully informed of your progress and will have the opportunity to discuss your work in detail during your individual tutorials.

The CELTA is awarded to those who pass each of the two assessed components of the course:

  • Planning and teaching
  • Classroom-related written assignments

The assessment is continuous and validated by an external assessor, appointed by Cambridge, who visits the course to assess the general standard of the course work. There is no final practical or written examination.

A written report is issued by ITTC to all participants, indicating strengths and weaknesses, and certificates and reports are sent out approximately six weeks after the results have been validated by Cambridge.

Full-time

The full-time course lasts four weeks and is highly intensive. Teaching practice and lesson observation take place at the Centre.

Candidates are expected to attend the whole course and will not be eligible to enter for the award unless both assessed components have been completed.
