Cambridge CELTA: Full-time/Part-time.
Teach at home and abroad with CELTA.
This course is for native and non-native speakers of English.
It’s perfect if you want to start a new career in English language teaching, if you’re on a gap year or want to go travelling and earn money teaching. Get qualified in just 4 weeks. It’s an assessment based course, so there are no exams and the accreditation lasts a lifetime!
It’s also the ideal course if you’re already teaching but also want to gain a formal, internationally-recognised qualification.
Awarded by Cambridge English Language Assessment (part of the University of Cambridge) it’s the industry standard certificate course, with genuine global recognition.
The CELTA course is very practical and you’ll be teaching from week one. It’s really rewarding and, although it requires a lot of effort, your course tutors will always be there to provide guidance and support.
If English isn’t your first language, you’ll need to be an advanced speaker, with a minimum level of C1 or higher, so you can teach our B2 students. If your level isn’t quite high enough, you can study the same practical content as the CELTA on our ITTC Certificate in TESOL course.
We have a thorough interview process to make sure this is the right course for you. When you apply, we’ll send you an interview task, with questions to help us asses your language level and awareness and your teaching ideas. We’ll then discuss the task at interview, either here in Bournemouth, by phone or over the internet and you can also ask us any questions you may have.
You might be eligible for Erasmus+ funding through your school or organisation.

Our CELTA course can be studied as a full-time 4 week course or a part-time 15 week course.
It’s been designed to teach you the principles of effective teaching. It will provide you with a range of practical skills for planning and teaching English to adult learners, and give you lots of hands-on teaching practice.
The course consists of:
- Two daily input sessions
- Lesson planning guidance
- 6 hours teaching practice
- Reflection and feedback sessions
- 6 hours observation of experienced teachers with real classes
You’ll cover the following syllabus areas:
- Learners and teachers and the teaching and learning context
- Language analysis and awareness
- Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
- Planning and resources for different teaching contexts
- Developing teaching skills and professionalism
On completion of the course you’ll also receive one year’s membership to Cambridge English Teacher Online Professional Development.
You’ll be continuously assessed on your planning, teaching and reflection. There are four classroom-related written assignments, which you’ll have a chance to resubmit (if necessary) after your tutor has given you some guidance.
There’s no final exam. The assessment is validated by an external assessor appointed by Cambridge who moderates the course.
There are lots of opportunities for you to discuss your progress with a tutor, in feedback sessions and individual tutorials, so as to provide support, encouragement and guidance on areas to develop.
Successful participants will meet the criteria needed to pass both the planning and teaching, and written assignments.
You’ll then receive your Cambridge CELTA certificate approximately 6-8 weeks after the course, as well as your ITTC written report, indicating your strengths, any areas to work on, and overall progress.
